Trust
A child has complete and utter trust in humanity, until one day their unwaivering belief is broken. I remember this sad day all to well. It was December 29th, about -30 outside with a howling wind. I had just made the 10 minute trek thru the church parking lot and scary unlit cat walk to fairhaven school for a fun practice of soccer at the age of 9 (2 days away from 10). As we were all waitng for the team before us in the gym to finish we began to remove our winter clothes, and then excitedly ran into the gym to begin. Practice went well, fun was had by all. By the end there was only 3 of us left because the rest had left early. Finally the coach told us it was time to go as he had to run and as he walked us out of the gym and locked up the remaining 3 of us began to put on our winter clothing as the coach left. The other 2 were ready quickly and headed off to get rides from thier parents. A young Adam searched for his brand new dallas cowboys jacket as it was his only missing article of winter gear. It was noit where he had thought he left it, he checked the gym, he checked the bathroom, under the chairs, in the garbage, the gym again. The tears began to well up in his eyes as his christmas gift, his most loved gift, was stolen. He ran home...what he left behind was trust, it was replaced with skepticism and he began questioning everything. His faith in humanity had been lost.
It was this day when turst was no longer given to everyone and was no longer felt in everything. Trust had to be earned...and for the longest time trust was built slowly but lost easily. As the years have past the trust is now easier to gain, but can be lost for some of the same reasons.
You learn all of your life's lessons as a child and spend the rest of your life just refining the details.
